- The entire letter to the Hebrews demonstrates that Jesus is greater than all in the Old Testament. All this points to the Messiah (=Christ) and his substitutionary sacrifice on the cross. The new covenant takes over from the old, replacing it.

- Melchizedek was a cardinal signpost pointing to Christ, the king of righteousness and king of peace, who shall set up God's kingdom of rigtheousness and peace. He is priest of God, the Most High. And he was from eternity and will be in all eternity.

- Melchizedek blessed Abraham and brought him bread and wine, and Abraham gave Melchizedek the tithe, submitting to his superiority. In this way, God prophesied that Jesus his Son was going to offer his body and blood on the cross, in order to enable the new covenant with the community of believers in Jesus.

- The law reserved the priesthood for the tribe of Levi. But Melchizedek had a higher standing than even Abraham. The Messiah, coming from the kingly tribe of Judah, shall be priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, outdating the Levitical priestly ministry and the entire Old Testament law.

- No Israelite king was allowed to be a priest. In all neighboring nations, priest-kings were the rule, and so was their deification and moral corruption. But the Messiah, eternal Son of God, is sinless. Surprisingly, neither Melchizedek's genealogy nor his death is mentioned, making him a suitable prototype for Christ.

- The law has brought nothing to perfection. It only foreshadowed the genuine propitiation which was to come. God can accept priests and animal sacrifices at most as prophetic pointers. It was only Jesus who then offered
once for all the only effective sacrifice on the cross.

- The tabernacle was a reproduction of the
heavenly pattern. Temples and priesthood that were but earthly were destroyed, and Jesus surrendered the temple of his body to destruction, in order to offer himself as a sacrifice to God in the heavenly Most Holy Place. After his death, he rose again bodily and was seated at God's right hand, being the only mediator between God and humans.

- The new covenant realizes the definitive salvation for all who accept the Messiah as their Savior. This new covenant is offered to people of
all nations, as God had promised Abraham. God created humans in his image, capable of a loving relationship with him, therefore as free persons. From the foundation of the world, this implied the necessity of the blameless sacrifice of Jesus.

- The risen Christ is seated at the right hand of God, making intercession for the saints. At their conversion to Jesus, they were born again by the Holy Spirit coming into their hearts, awakening them spiritually. He baptized them into the "body of Christ", so that they are "in Christ" before God. And there, their eternal life is absolutely secure.

The central, most important message of the whole bible is God's incarnation in his Son Jesus Christ, who, by his voluntary propitiatory sacrifice on the cross, bore the sins of all humans and then arose from the dead bodily, as a forerunner of all those who personally trust him as their Savior.
